On a simple observation of Long Neck Women, we can notice that no one woman is overweight or obese, and all of them have a lean body shape. One more important fact is that all Long Neck Women of similar age have a shape of body that is almost identical to each other. This shows that wearing rings around the neck somehow determines the body weight and shape.

The lean body shapes among women that practice the Asian custom of wearing rings around the neck is just one of the reasons why putting rings around the neck should be regarded as one of the non-invasive but highly effective ancient obesity preventive weight loss surgery.

The reasons why putting rings around the neck should be regarded as an ancient obesity preventive weight loss surgery, I will try to explain in this slightly longer article.

1. The Long Neck Women

In a few African and Asian cultures, it is a custom among the female population to wear a set of rings or brass coils around the neck. The common belief is that the rings are worn to create the appearance of an elongated neck.

Padaung (Kayan Lahwi) women of the Kayan people begin to wear neck coils from as young as the age of two. Neck rings are formed with one or more spiral metal coils of many turns. The length of the coil is gradually increased to as much as twenty turns.

The custom of wearing rings around the neck among Kajan women from the Karen tribe (to the rest of the world known as Long Neck Women) can explain plenty about the ancient wisdoms concerning body weight, shape and the adverse musculoskeletal changes in humans.

Side note: Apart from humans, other mammals are almost immune from adverse musculoskeletal changes. On the other hand, no other mammal is prone to so much negative health conditions like humans.

On a simple observation of Long Neck Women, we can notice that no one woman is overweight or obese, and all of them have a lean body shape. One more important fact is that all Long Neck Women of similar age have a shape of body that is almost identical to each other. This shows that wearing rings around the neck somehow determines the body weight and shape

Simply observing women who practice the custom of wearing rings around the neck, we can notice that the length of the neck is in direct relation to their body weight and shape. The longer their neck is, the thinner they are.

Please note!

Obesity epidemic is a new phenomenon, and the custom of putting rings around the neck started a long time ago before the obesity problem was known.

The purpose of wearing the rings around the neck was to achieve and to maintain the certain shape of the musculoskeletal system.

Rings around the neck force maintenance of certain body posture and certain gait. It restricts locomotion and in same time it unable clumsy gait and slouched posture.

The most visible consequence of wearing the rings around the neck is that al “Long Neck Women” have identical body weight and body shape.

By observing the rest of today’s world population, it can be noticed that the length of their neck is linked to their body weight.

An increase in the length of the neck is related to weight loss, and a decrease in the length of the neck is related to weight gain.

Actually, the intention to elongate the neck, or to prevent a decrease of the normal length of the neck, or at least to make the visual illusion of an elongated neck, was familiar, not only to the Long Neck Women, but many other civilisations and it is far more prevalent today than at any time in history.

The reasons why putting rings (bras coils) around the neck among the Karen tribes of the Thai-Burmese/Myanmar border should be regarded as an ancient weight loss surgery, will be easy to explain if there isn’t so many misconceptions about the long Neck Women, and misconceptions about the custom of wearing rings around the neck.

First of all, there are a few myths that need to be debunked about the Long Neck Women, and the consequences of wearing rings around the neck for a prolonged period of time.

2. The Myth about the Danger of Taking the Rings Off

People have long believed that taking the rings off the neck will cause suffocation and inevitable death. When some women who wore rings around the neck removed their rings (bras oils), the myth was debunked because it shows that when the coils are

"Increasing numbers of Padaung “longneck” women are removing the neck rings that make them a tourist draw in

northern Thailand, hoping they’ll improve their chances of being resettled abroad."

removed, not only it didn’t cause suffocation and death, but it shows that there is no health danger of removing the rings.

Even when it was obvious that when the coils are removed there is no health danger, it was still a concern that the neck muscles are atrophied, and are weaker than the rest of the body. Such a belief was based on the wrong assumption that the rings (bras coils) support the neck in an upright position and that due to inactivity of the neck muscles, the weight of the head is mostly supported by the rings or brass coils and this is wrong. In reality, the neck muscles of people who practice the custom of wearing rings around the neck are more physically active than the neck muscles of the population who do not practice the custom of wearing rings around the neck.
